Waiting to takeoff is the Pilomatic… A watch inspired by military, German-made “Pilot” designs and powered – for the first time in Astor + Banks history – by an automatic movement.
If you know me, you know I’m a sucker for reminiscing and documenting backstories. The pictures in this post do just that. They were taken by various members of the Commonwealth Crew over the past (almost) two years. Some were shot with cameras, but most with just a cameraphone. But what they all have in common is they were all shot in the presence of friends and all “for the love of Horology.”
Andrew will tell you, “I’m married, I have a baby… you have to go [to watchmaking school] for two years straight, and I don’t have that option.” But with Andrew, if there’s a will, there’s a way. And he found such a way to pursue his curiosity about watch movements – and assembly – all while keeping his day job, and never enrolling in a formal horology curriculum. His resourcefulness turned into a watch company, Chicago-based Astor & Banks.
